How to File Your Taxes Last Minute

If April 15th is creeping up on you and you haven’t filed your taxes yet, you’re probably panicking and worried that you may incur penalties from the IRS. And while filing late will lead to fines, there are actually a few ways you can still file your taxes without incurring any penalties. In fact, we recommend the following two options for you that will get you more time to do your taxes and will help ensure you still file accurately and efficiently:

File for a Tax Deadline Extension with the IRS

If you are worried about missing the April 15th deadline, you can file an extension with the IRS to push that deadline back by up to six months. Most people qualify for this extension and you do not need to tell the IRS why you are filing it. Note, though, that while you can file for this extension to get more time for your taxes, you must submit your request for extension before the April 15th deadline.

You can view the form you must submit here and learn more about the filing process and how it works. If you’re not sure if you should file for an extension, or if you would like to speak with a tax professional to see if this is a good idea for you, please feel free to reach out to us at any time.

Get Professional Help To Expedite Your Taxes

Regardless of whether you decide to file for an extension or pay your taxes by April, if you are concerned about filing your taxes in a timely and accurate manner, we recommend seeking professional help. Filing your taxes is the last thing you want to do in a hurry, seeing as the smallest mistake could cost you in the form of fines and penalties from the IRS.

The bottom line is that you don’t want to give half an effort while filing your taxes; rather, you must check every detail and take your time with this process. So, we recommend finding a trustworthy and experienced CPA to help you with your taxes and ensure everything is done properly.
